Our Facility
Second Harvest Food Bank has moved to a new, 200,000 square foot warehouse facility located at 700 Edwards Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70123 in the Elmwood warehouse district. The new warehouse is located just six blocks from the 1201 Sams Avenue location.
Last year, Second Harvest Food Bank distributed more than 24 million pounds of food, the equivalent of approximately 20 million meals -- nearly doubling its annual distribution over the last five years throughout 23 south Louisiana parishes. Looking forward, Second Harvest Food Bank has an aggressive strategic goal to increase food distribution to roughly 40 million meals by 2013. The move to a larger warehouse is a critical step toward meeting this long term strategic goal.
With a larger warehouse Second Harvest Food Bank will enhance its capacity to accept and distribute better quality and larger quantities of food, improve and expand services to member agencies, develop and deliver community programs to better meet the needs of families, seniors and children who are struggling with hunger, and engage the community through education, outreach and volunteer opportunities. The larger warehouse will also advance Second Harvest Food Bank’s vital role in disaster response.
