Hunger Action Month

Feeding America and its 200 affiliated food banks nationwide join together in September during Hunger Action Month, a movement to raise awareness about the issue of hunger.

 

Second Harvest Food Bank encourages individuals and families to find simple, actionable ways to participate by advocating or raising awareness, making donations of food or funds, volunteering, or even by attending the Harvest the Music concert series.  Here are a few simple ideas to get started:

 

Volunteer - Invite your family, friends or coworkers to volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank.  In the Greater New Orleans area, call 504-729-2849, or in Lafayette dial 337-237-7711 to learn more or schedule a volunteer shift.

 

Donate - Host a food drive at work or in your neighborhood.  Donate nonperishable food items such as canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, soups, stews, rice or pasta.  

Or if you prefer to make a monetary gift, click here to donate securely online.

 

Advocate - Raise your voice in support of for national nutrition programs. Send postcards or call your elected officials.

 

Participate - Come out to Harvest the Music, each Wednesday beginning September 19 through October 24.  All proceeds from the series will help fight hunger. Click here for the full line up and details.
