Hunger Action Month
September was Hunger Action Month, a movement to raise awareness about the issue of hunger in partnership with Feeding America and 200 affiliated food banks nationwide.
In Greater New Orleans, Second Harvest Food Bank partnered with Entergy on the Power to Fight Hunger campaign. An extension of Entergy’s Power to Care campaign, the Power to Fight Hunger effort encouraged individuals and families to find simple, actionable ways to participate by advocating or raising awareness, making donations of food or funds, volunteering, or even by attending the Harvest the Music concert series. In addition, Entergy donated $2.50 for every “like” received on Entergy’s Power to Care Facebook page during Hunger Action Month and the Harvest the Music concert series which ended November 2 to Second Harvest Food Bank to help fight hunger in south Louisiana. 
The First Lady of Louisiana, Supriya Jindal, visited Second Harvest Food Bank’s Lafayette branch to highlight Hunger Action Month kick-off a community-wide food drive.
Mrs. Jindal accepted food donations from United Way of Acadiana, students of Sts. Leo-Seton Catholic School, and fraternities and sororities from the University of Louisiana – Lafayette, along with 10,000 DOLE Fruit Bowls in 100% Juice. Mrs. Jindal also encouraged individuals, families and businesses to ways to participate in Hunger Action Month by making donations of food or funds, volunteering or hosting a food drive, or raising awareness about the issue of hunger in Louisiana.
