For many in our community hunger is a terrifying possibility and an awful reality – and it hits seniors the hardest. They have worked hard all their lives but often they do not have enough income in retirement to make it without some assistance. They are our parents and grandparents – folks who live alone or in congregate care centers.

Seniors represent 25% of the people served by Second Harvest. In addition to our food distribution program, we operate a Senior Café program that prepares and distributes freshly made, wholesome meals daily to senior centers throughout Greater New Orleans.
Accommodations are made for individuals with limited feeding abilities and special dietary restrictions. And our menu is selected to reflect the traditions of our region’s cuisine while adhering to the unique nutritional needs of a senior population.

If you are a senior center interested in partnering with us to provide hot meals for your residents, please contact Children’s Program Manager, Tanya O’Reilly, at toreilly@no-hunger.org or 504.729.2837.

If you are interested in supporting our Senior Café program, please give today.  A $1 donation helps us provide 3 meals for a senior in need.
