Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)

You may qualify for a free box of nutritious shelf-stable groceries each month. It’s a benefit available through the federally funded Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP).

Each month’s box contains a variety of nutritious groceries such as canned fruits and vegetables, juice, milk, canned meat, cereal, rice or pasta, cheese, and plant-based protein such as peanut butter or beans.

Eligible seniors must be Louisiana residents aged 60+ and meet income guidelines set by the USDA outlined below.

The first time a box is picked up, the following must be provided:

  • The participant’s government-issued photo identification

  • Age verification (driver’s license, state ID card, or birth certificate)

  • Proof of residence (driver’s license or utility bill)

  • Can someone else pick up my Senior Commodity Box for me? 

    • Yes, you can authorize someone to pick up your box on your behalf. Please email us at CSFP@no-hunger.org or call us directly at 504-729-2842. 

 

  • Is there a cost to participate in the Senior Commodity Box Program? 

    • No, the CSFP program is free of charge for eligible participants. The program is funded by the USDA and administered by the Louisiana Department of Health. 

 

  • How often do participants receive Senior Commodity Boxes? 

    • Participants are eligible to receive one box per month. Some distribution sites may use a bi-monthly model. This means that boxes will be distributed every other month, and registered participants will receive two boxes at each distribution.

To file a program discrimination complaint, a Complainant should complete a Form AD-3027, USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form which can be obtained online at: https://www.usda.gov/sites/default/files/documents/ad-3027.pdf, from any USDA office, by calling (866) 632-9992, or by writing a letter addressed to USDA. The letter must contain the complainant’s name, address, telephone number, and a written description of the alleged discriminatory action in sufficient detail to inform the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights (ASCR) about the nature and date of an alleged civil rights violation. The completed AD-3027 form or letter must be submitted to USDA by:
