It Helps Us

“This is a blessing, and this is great. This helps people,” says Grace while waiting in her car, her husband beside her. At 77, she still drives each month to pick up their Senior Box through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). Her husband is 81.

The routine is simple: drive up, check in, wait. Volunteers load the trunk, offer a wave, and Grace pulls back onto the road. The groceries are familiar. They stretch what’s at home and anchor simple meals.

Grace cooks most days. “It helps us, because we cook and feed our grandkids, too,” she says. Two grandkids and two great-grandkids gather at her table. If a neighbor needs something from her box, she shares. That’s how she’s always lived. She looks out for others.

David, another participant, puts it this way: “I think it benefits the seniors very well. I’m grateful to have it. And I think it’s a wonderful program. … I think the people that come are always polite and very helpful.”

Every month, volunteers pack and distribute nearly 20,000 Senior Boxes to older neighbors across our community. That consistency matters. Because of you, there is a little breathing room at the end of the month. There are more choices at the stove. There is peace of mind.

“This is a blessing,” Grace says with a smile. It may not be everything, but it’s enough for today.

Your support keeps the Senior Box Program steady for neighbors like Grace and David, so they can bring meals home with dignity and plan for steadier days.
