Senior Programs Coordinator

Position Summary
Second Harvest Food Bank’s (SHFB) Senior Programs Coordinator is responsible for the relationship development, coordination, implementation, and compliance of Second Harvest’s Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). A USDA program administered by the Louisiana Department of Health to serve low-income seniors, CSFP is operated by Second Harvest in partnership with Feeding Louisiana and hundreds of partners across the region. The Senior Programs Coordinator is a key position to helping Second Harvest address food insecurity among seniors and provide them with the food they need to be healthy, happy, and thriving.
Accountabilities
- Maintain knowledge of current state and federal CSFP policies and procedures.
- Build, cultivate, and maintain partnerships with community organizations (Councils on Aging, senior living facilities, etc.) to distribute monthly CSFP boxes.
- Create and coordinate outreach strategies to increase awareness about CSFP eligibility and access.
- Work with Operations Team to manage partner delivery schedules and orders.
- Coordinate with Volunteer Services to recruit volunteers for distributions.
- Ensure accurate digital client intake in Pantry Soft and maintain up-to-date records.
- Reconcile box delivery and distribution data monthly.
- Manage client waitlists and rotate clients to active enrollment to maintain 95-100% caseload utilization.
- Coordinate with Community Nutrition and Neighbor Services teams for education and SNAP outreach.
- Provide training to CSFP partners on system usage, civil rights, and food safety.
- Ensure program compliance through regular monitoring site visits.
- Prepare monthly reports on seniors served and outreach activities.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience. (Degree in Social Work preferred).
- Experience: Experience in training and supervision of volunteers.

- Sensitivity to poverty and hunger issues; interest in health equity and community organizing.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and handle confidential information.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and insurance.
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
Work Environment
Based at Second Harvest’s facility in New Orleans, this position requires both in-office work and work in the field across an 11-parish region. This position requires a combination of office and warehouse environments. Occasionally, warehouse duties for repack or salvage may be required as well as responding to issues outside of normal working hours (e.g., disaster response). Pushing, pulling, lifting, and/or carrying objects up to 30 pounds may be required.
