FAQ: What’s Happening?
Why is Second Harvest’s food supply lower than usual?
Right now, Second Harvest is receiving fewer food deliveries than expected. This is due in part to changes in federal food programs that are affecting food banks across the country, not just here in Louisiana.
Is Second Harvest still distributing food?
Yes. We are still operating at full strength. We are buying extra food to help fill the gap. We are working closely with farmers, food donors, and grocery partners to bring in more product.
What else is Second Harvest doing to respond?
We are:
-
Purchasing food to make up for what’s been delayed or canceled
-
Hiring more staff and adding another truck to expand food pickups
-
Partnering with lawmakers to advocate for stronger food support programs
-
Staying in close contact with Feeding America and state agencies to plan for what’s next
How can I help right now?

Call your lawmakers: Ask them to support food assistance for families in Louisiana.
Is help on the way?
Yes. New USDA food deliveries are expected by the end of April. While we can’t predict how much or how often they’ll arrive, we are ready to receive and distribute everything we can, as quickly as possible.
How can I stay updated?
