Second Harvest Responds to the Flooding in Lake Charles
Due to the recent storms many people in Lake Charles are suffering. Hundreds of homes and businesses were flooded, some not yet repaired following the 2020 hurricanes. It is heartbreaking and so unfair to see so many going through this for the second or even third time in a year.
Second Harvest immediately sprang into action after the damaging rains. Here are just a few ways your support helped Second Harvest provide relief in the flooded areas:
- Brought shelf-stable food, snacks, and water to partner food pantries in Lake Charles including Glad Tidings and Life United Church
- Provided much-needed proteins, like beef and shrimp, to Mercy Chefs, who prepared thousands of hot meals
- Delivered truckloads of water to Lake Charles and the nearby town of Sulphur
Gus & Katie Rodrigue run the food pantry at Life United Church in Lake Charles, an 18-year partner of Second Harvest. “It’s just hard,” Gus said. “So many people still rebuilding from the hurricanes got flooded this week. I want to thank everyone who has helped us through all this.”
Long after images of flooding and storms fall out of the spotlight, thousands will still be dealing with gutting homes, hauling priceless memories to the curb, dealing with insurance companies… Yet another long rebuilding process for so many who haven’t even fully recovered from Hurricanes Laura and Delta.
