Volunteers urgently needed to prepare meals for local kids!
The Second Harvest Food Bank Kids Cafe program cooks and delivers thousands of hot meals to local after-school programs every week. However, due to dramatically increased demand for these meals, Second Harvest is in urgent need for many more volunteers to help prepare these meals.
“On our busiest days, our staff and volunteers prepare approximately 1,500 meals for local children, five days a week,” said Second Harvest Community Kitchen Director Susan Goss. “However, we are serving more after-school sites than ever, and we’re unfortunately very behind in the number of volunteers we need.”
Please contact Vanessa Cave-Herazo at vcaveherazo@secondharvest.org or call 504-729-2850 for info on how you can become part of our Kids Cafe team.
Volunteers must be at least 15 years old. Three volunteer shifts are available each day Monday through Thursday in the Second Harvest Community Kitchen in Elmwood, 700 Edwards Avenue from 8:30am to 11am, 10am to 12:30pm, and noon to 2:30pm. A Friday volunteer shift is also available from 8:30am to 11am.
“We’re so fortunate to have the help of more than 8,000 volunteers who help our entire organization year round,” Goss said. “But we are in need of more than 70 more regular volunteers to make this important program happen.”
