This is our ongoing blog with updates on how your donations to Second Harvest are being utilized.
October 10 update to our August flooding disaster:
Aid delivered: So far, we have delivered 1.4 million pounds of disaster relief products to than more than 80,000 people in 19 parishes.
Where the help has gone: So far, our trucks have delivered food, water, cleaning supplies and Abbott Disaster Boxes to victims in these parishes (counties, for those outside of Louisiana reading this): Acadia, Ascension, Calcasieu, East Baton Rouge, Evangeline, Jeff Davis, Lafayette, Livingston, St. Mary, St. John, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Tammany, St. Martin, Tangipahoa, Vermillion, Washington and West Baton Rouge.
Thank you to everyone who has helped: The response is an ongoing collaboration with countless organizations, churches, businesses, individuals and members of local/state government. Please accept our deepest appreciation from the bottom of our hearts.
How to help: Disaster response has been a core part of our year-round mission for more than 30 years. Please click the link above to make a monetary donation to help us respond to this and other disasters, as well as the everyday disaster of hunger in South Louisiana.
Suggested donation items: Canned vegetables, fruit, and meats (tuna and chicken), soups and stews, beans and chili. Peanut butter, pasta, rice, breakfast cereal and shelf-stable milk are needed. Cleaning supplies including bleach, disinfectants, gloves, sponges, trash bags, and scrub brushes are also needed to help residents with the cleanup of flooded homes.
Where to donate food, funds and supplies: You can donate weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at our 700 Edwards Avenue facility in the Elmwood Warehouse district area. You can also donate food, funds and cleaning supplies at any Rouses.
Lafayette donations: Bring them to Second Harvest Food Bank from 7:30 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. Mon – Fri at our Lafayette warehouse and offices at 215 E. Pinhook Road.
